I’m a sucker and I know it. I just got back from a Lauren Conrad, formally known as LC, book signing. Yes, I had to buy her book to go.
Last weekend, Husband and I stopped into Tattered Cover so we could purchase the book I’ll be reviewing for book club. When I walked in the door a sign stared me down. It advertised Lauren Conrad (from The Hills on MTV if you’re out of the loop) would be coming to sign her newest novel Sweet Little Lies. Original, I know. I tried to ignore it. I found my book, checked out and just as I was about to leave my mouth opened against my conscience and asked for details. I gave Husband puppy dog eyes for “permission” to buy it. He eloquently replied, “Hell to the No.” So, I made a deal. I could buy the book and he could spend the equivalent amount of money on an XBOX game. The next day I woke up honestly thinking it was a dream and laughing at myself for actually following through with it. I’m not ashamed to admit I watch The Hills (although I prefer The City) but it was just a step too deep buying her book. Honestly, I just wanted to see what she looked like and how she acted.
I didn’t have to wait too long in line but boy, oh boy, did I wish I had a tape recorder. Before I stepped…skipped like a giddy school girl…out the door (Husband tried not to acknowledge where I was really going), I said “I’m off to be a teeny bopper.” I was just a titch older than her normal demographic and felt sweet relief when I saw another wedding ring or two show up. I stood between two really nice gals but then one of them turned scarier by the minute. We were all in our 20’s and were having a good laugh at the whole thing not afraid to admit we were there for ourselves. Then the gal behind me started referring to “LC” in a friend form. Doesn’t she know that calling her “LC” was soooo yesterday? She talked about how down to Earth she is and that she so relates to her. Cue the scary dagger music. She was really concerned about the characters and their drama. I’m a fan of the show but even I realize to take them as characters. Worst part, ok aside from sounding like a super scary stalker, she was 27 but easily sounded like the other 16 year olds in line. I got so uncomfortable I finally just turned away from her, and I usually try not to be rude like that.
I snapped a couple of pictures and then had to put the camera away when I got to the very front. She looks like she kinda does on TV but a lot more petite. Small features. Killer arms. Too much makeup. Pretty personable for the circumstance. She totally checked out my turquoise ring. Thanks Grandma. Overall, glad I went.
PS The book (half way done) isn’t great. The best part, trying to match the novel characters with the actual ones from The Hills.

I forgot to snap the pic when I was all dressed up.

I so wish I lived in Denver with you! I would SO have gone! You and I are like twins separated at birth, we have so much in common! The only book signing I have been to was Kristin Chenowith here in OKC. I felt the same way, she is really small with great arms!

that’s awesome. Heather and I watch the hills (in season) every Monday night. Heather LOVES the city because if she didn’t marry me that’s what her life would be like. Oops.
