Please embark upon a short story with me…
Last night, I got a call from Husband down in the parking lot. He asked if I would throw the keys down from our 3rd floor balcony so he could go run. Props to Husband. No biggy, we’ve tossed many a things from the porch to one another, excluding Charlie of course. Oh, a very important side note: there’s almost a foot of snow on the ground. I threw the keys down. Unfortunately they landed in a snow covered bush.
Husband…
- Searched for well over 45 min in 20 degree weather
- Used his cell phone as a light
- Used a candle for light
- Threatened to take our creme brulee torch down for light
- Uprooted half of the bush and almost just took the entire thing out all together
- Decided it was time to get out the snow bibs and gloves
- Cleared a 5 ft radios of a foot of snow
- Was 5 paces away from driving to Target and buying a kid’s metal detector (do they even have those things there?)
- Knocked on the neighbors door, they almost refused to talk to him because they thought he was a solicitor, and asked them to turn on their porch light
- Borrowed a flashlight from the neighbors
- And was just about to give up when he found them, packed and buried in the snow where he had been kneeling
Lessons learned…
- Don’t throw keys off of the balcony in the dark with snow on the ground
- Buy a flash light
- And it really wouldn’t hurt to have a metal detector on hand
This is about half-way through his adventure:

What a great story. Empathy.
Last year I tossed our car keys to hubby who standing on the balcony of our third story apartment. Needless to say, having them land on the roof of the apartment building with 6 inches of snow proved a challenge when trying to convince the maintenance man to go up for them.
Really frustrating then, totally funny to me now.
