Labor Day

Sadly, we had no laboring of our own; however, we filled the “Don’t Really Know What We’re Supposed to Be Celebrating” Holiday by exploring a couple of old mining towns in the Rockies.

We first went to the quaint town of Morrison. Blink your eyes more than once and you’ll probably miss the main street and heart of town, but if you drive the suggested speed limit you’ll eye several little antique, jewelry and specialty shops. I fell in LOVE with the Morrison Country Store. It’s one of those stores that has you looking from floor to ceiling and their style of display makes you take a couple trips around the store because you probably missed something the first time through.

After Morrison, we drove just a few minutes up the street to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. All of the greats have played in this unique venue. The seating is cradled by huge red rock boulders, that have awesome lighting at night, and lends an incredible view of Downtown in the distance. We would love to see Dave and John play here. Someday.

After Red Rocks, we took the windy scenic route up to the town of Evergreen where we found a gem of a spot: The Wildflower Cafe. The Cafe can only sit about 15 people. The cozy atmosphere just adds to the yummy goodness served up for breakfast and lunch. Husband got a breakfast skillet: wild potatoes, salsa, avocado, sour cream, cheese and two eggs served easy. I went with a turkey, sprout and avocado sandwich on wild oat bread and we split a side order of biscuits and gravy. Quite possibly the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had. On the docket to try next time: Strawberry Cheesecake Stuffed French Toast. If you come to visit us, we’ll probably take you here and maybe even rent a paddle boat to take out on the picturesque lake.

We’ll pass on the paddleboats in December, but the cafe sounds like a perfect Dadurday location. Especially since biscuits are a necessary staple at each location.
