A Cautionary Tale

April 22nd, 2009 by Steven · 9 Comments

Readers!

Holy holy cow readers, have I a story for you. It is, as the title suggests, a cautionary tale. You see, readers, we all live in a fancy world here that’s full of technology. We have Iphones, Bluetooths, Blackberries, Blueberries, and Schnozberries (coming out later this year, they really taste like schnozberries!)

I, for one, am a huge fan of this. I love technology and the ability that it gives me to snap pictures and instantly share them with friends and family across the country. I use a site called flickr. (Highly recommended) I throw up my pictures there for all the world to see. I do this for two reasons:

1) I’m extremely vain

2) Um well….. I guess it’s only the first one.

Here’s the rub. Because of my giant ego, I’ve made all our pictures (except for a select few) public to everyone. No biggie, at best someone will recognize my artistry and pay me huge sums of cash for my pictures (delivered, of course, in a sack with a huge dollar sign on it)

Well it turns out that someone has recognized my artistry although not neccessarily in the way that I would think of.

First some context. About a year ago, we had Wife’s roommates and their husbands over for dinner. Wife being the amazing person that she is created a whole experience for us complete with a tin tub filled with IBC Root Beers and Cream Sodas. You can see the whole thing chronicled here.

We snapped some photos, played some games, and had a good time.

Flash forward to today….

My coworker Eugene approaches me and says, “Hey do you have friends at HolyTaco?” I tell him a) that’s an amazing name for a taco stand and b) no, no I don’t. He goes on saying how he was surfing the web late last night and came upon a picture of a person who looked remarkably similar to me. He then pointed me to the article in question and I got presented with this. (I didn’t link to the site cause it ain’t the most wholesome site out there but I did grab what’s important.)

The article title?

The 8 stages of alcohol consumption

Oh this is going to be good.

I scroll down the page and I find this:

Yes readers, yours truly along with the husbands have been deemed ambassadors of Stage 5 (STAGE 5!) of the alcohol consumption steps. Now when I saw this, many emotions and thoughts flew through my head:

Shock (No way! How did they stumble upon this picture?)

Awe (Holy crap, they think were drunk!)

and finally… not lying, the smallest smigden of  Pride (Stage 5 baby! And we don’t even drink! ACTING!!!!)

What’s more is that this particular article has become very popular on a site called digg.com It is now the number 6th ranked story.

Yes I am now part of  the 6th ranked story on Digg.com! I know I should be slightly T.O.’d right now but honestly I am laughing my head off way too hard to be mad.

Now I know what you readers are saying, “This shall not stand! You can’t let this indiscretion continue! Where’s Johnny Cochran? Ally McBeal? Lionel Hutz? The Superfriends? They must take this down!!!!”

And to that I say “No, they musn’t”

HolyTaco is completely within it’s rights to take that picture. I was the one who threw it up on flickr, thereby giving free reign to anybody to use it.  To the husbands with me in the picture, I’m really sorry that you got dragged into this. The only thing that I hope you do is join me in laughing really hard and taking pride that on this day, I became an internet celebrity.

Oh. And drinking’s bad mmmmkay?
