We Really Are In North Carolina…Promise

July 23rd, 2008 by Elizabeth · 4 Comments

It’s probably hard to believe that we’re really living in North Carolina because we haven’t really given any proof of our existence here. I promise we didn’t fib about the job, car or wanting a change of scenery from Orem…WE REALLY ARE HERE!

Due to the forementioned car problems and then a weekend trip down south (both posts to come direclty after this one), we’ve been a little tardy in posting our first week of adventures. Please don’t kick us out. I’ve done some extra credit assignments to make up for it.

Our journey thus far includes:

-the obligatory shots of the RDU airport

-a real thunderstorm welcome the first night and we’ve had at least a dozen since

-a beautiful sunrise over the trees our first morning

-A stop to see the HUGE Cisco CAMPUS (12 buildings, all beautifully manicured)

yes, I’m holding a wad of cash…shallow, I know

-the first of many Civil War historical sites

-paying homage to High Point THE furniture capital of the world to begin our quest for a new sofa (this ONE store we went to had over 1,000,000 sq ft of furniture!) We’ve since been back and have yet to finalize our sofa, more to come later.

-a couple of hikes throughout the Eno River State Park (we originally set out to find a specific footbridge we saw in a book; two trips later we still haven’t found the bridge alas we’ve had an amazing time exploring)

no, that’s not a flower it’s some kind of weird fungus and yes, (if you know me) I did get a stick & disect it

The theme of the outings: “I Like Turtles” (please see YOUTUBE clip)

Yes, this really is what it looks like EVERYWHERE not just in the State Park

-A Game of the Durham Bulls with a side of nachos followed by an amazing fireworks show, dare we say one of the best ones we’ve ever seen

-Finished with the red carpet arrival (literally) of our belongings

We have loved the adventure thus far and are starting to make our roots. So, here’s to North Carolina welcoming us in.

    Welcome to North Carolina.

Here is the foot bridge you were looking for. Coordinates: 36.075443, -79.007733 (copy/paste into google maps search, then zoom all the way in.) Judging by your tree root photo, you were so close! I believe you were only a mile down the road at another entrance to the park. The park is large and spreads all along the river’s length. Go here for a lot more info on how the park started and continues to grow. http://enoriver.org/

Feel free to email me if you have any questions about the area, particularly about the hiking trails, paddling spots, or photo opportunities. Your photos are marvelous, by the way. Creative, fun, and well executed.

    Enjoy your new home.

PS. enjoy the thunder showers too; last year we were in severe drought condition most of the year.
