Yes, the Princess of April Fools; my mother is the Queen and I have not yet proven myself for her to relinquish her title…. Every year my mom would pull some sneaky prank; it didn’t matter if it was masterminded or a simple slip…she had my brothers, dad and myself in fear every year. In such fear, that we just wouldn’t eat anything she made us that day and April 1st was the one day a year we would avoid, at all cost, spending time with her. Whether it was salt instead of sugar on oatmeal, plastic “play” food as a sandwich or bean muffins (my brothers know what I’m talking about), she always had something.
Yesterday, I was talking with my mom and she inquired as to whether I was prepared for the next day’s events and going to carry on her legacy. After last year’s prank of going all OUT with a fake ultrasound and everything, please pursue Steven if you don’t know the story, I told her I was a bit jaded with this “holiday.” That blew the socks right off her, because everyone knows I love holidays. Sooooo, I decided I couldn’t let my Momma down. Please review exhibits A, B, C, D & E:
Exhibit A: The accomplices: cheap cereal I only use for a recipe, buttermilk that I needed to get rid of and the little, red bowl

Exhibit B: Poor the “aged” buttermilk over the cheap cereal, leaving room at the top to allow more cereal at a later point

Exhibit C: Send husband out to “run an errand” and freeze the “cereal” overnight

Exhibit D: The next morning prepare “breakfast” for your loved one by adding a fresh, thin layer of cereal and milk…although I used the stuff he actually likes this time: granola & 1%. When he digs in for a mouthful of goodness, his spoon will hit the frozen layer. The best/ saddest part was after he discovered the joke and genuinely said “Ah, man I was really looking forward to the granola.” (Of course I fixed him a new bowl)

Exhibit E: The frozen joke

So Ma, how’d I do?
