Halfy Birthday

February 28th, 2008 by Steven · 5 Comments

Faithful readers will know that my wife loves celebrations, as evidenced here, here, and especially here. Well that excitement has rubbed off a little on me as well which allows me to celebrate Elizabeth’s half birthday today. Now being of the male gender, I am automatically disadvantaged when it comes to party planning. Had I that extra X chromosome I could have flawlessly pulled off a wonderful half birthday party filled with halves of cake, presents, and guests. But alas I do not have that luxury.

But fret not, gentle readers, for I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. You see, my wife is an avid Sophie Kinsella fan. She’s read all her books, owns a few of them and comments regularly on how much she loves Sophie’s “sassiness” (her word not mine) Well awhile back I found out that Mrs. Kinsella had a new book coming out, so I preordered it. On Tuesday I took my lunch break and headed over to pick up my prize. The very next day with the book safely in my bag, the adage “great minds think alike” was reaffirmed to me when Eb’s mother informed me that she had purchased the new Sophie Kinsella book for Elizabeth. I had to inform her that I had beat her to the punch and she gracefully relinquished the title of Sophie-Kinsella-book-getter-for-Elizabeth to me.

So today came around and I was wondering how I could integrate the half birthday theme into the celebration. I entertained the idea of ripping her new book in half before giving it to her but somehow that didn’t seem the best idea for some reason. So I gave her the book in its entirety (oh and yes she loved it) and then headed off to work.

After work Wife came in Teyshaun to pick me up and we went to the new hotness called Pizzeria 712. It’s this quaint pizzeria on State St. that’s headed up by former Sundance chefs.  Readers, let me tell you something. This places rocks my socks. It doesn’t just rock my socks, though. It seduces my socks with gentle love ballads before melting my socks’ face off with an awesome dual-necked guitar solo. Then it invites my socks backstage, loads them up with sweet t shirts and autographed cds, and then ushers my socks out promising to call them tomorrow to hang out. But it doesn’t call. Why should it? It’s a friggen rock star.

Yes readers, this place is amazing. Eb and I began our journey with a delicious homemade mac and cheese appetizer. We then traversed through a roasted fennel, pepper and sausage pizza made in the oven that we could see from our table. And we concluded our pilgramage with two (count ‘em) two desserts. A vanilla bean panna cotta and a delectable brownie sundae. Delicousness, thy name is Pizzeria 712.

But, dear readers, the best part, the very best part, about this entire day, was that I got to show just a fraction of the love and admiration that I have for my best friend, Elizabeth. Words are not worthy enough to describe how much I feel for this incredible woman. She is smart, witty, caring, kind, supportive and so many other adjectives. She is a shining example in so many aspects and I love her dearly. She makes me want to be a better husband and I know that she is going to be an incredible mother someday. I cannot imagine my life without her and look forward to so many more half birthdays to come. Halfy birthday sweetie.

You are the second person I’ve heard raving about this place in the last few weeks. Being the lover of all things pizza that I am, I will definitely have to try it and soon! Our halfy anniversary is coming up next week. Hmmm…. I’m making plans already!
