For those readers with an eclectic music style, you will recognize which songs the headline comes from; for those somewhat deprived readers, I’ll give you a hint…imagine Bloodhound Gang meets Jefferson Starship.
For the past few months, Steven and I have been making a list of must-see, must-do and must-eat places while we are still living in the land of Deseret. One of those places was The Roof restaurant at the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, which looks over the vast majority of the valley including spectacular views of the temple and capital building. Last Friday, Steven and I continued our Valentine’s Day celebration with a night on The Roof.
After battling the other reception-goers for a parking spot, Steven and I were seated at our table and not just any table but the best table in the house…I guess it helps to make your reservation a month in advance; I swear I have some form of OCD. I enjoyed eating as many shrimp as I could handle while Steven was enthralled with the dessert spread consisting of 25 different delectable treats.

Saturday evening we ventured into the cold to stand in line for the Sara Bareilles concert. The 2.5 hours spent in the 32-28 degree weather was completely worth it. Steven and I were the 9th & 10th person in line for the general admission concert which only housed a mere 150-200 fans. We were on the front row directly in front of Sara. Ok, Ok that just doesn’t do it justice…we were 7ft. away from her and I sat my butt on the stage, people! It was “ridonculous.” I think we used the zoom function once and that was for a nose shot.

If you are a fan of her music (which everyone should be because she is extremely talented), please just trust me when I say she is so much better live than on her cd! Her personality totally came through in this intimate setting. She comes across as extremely down-to-earth and just really cute. My mind is spinning right now just thinking about the concert. I’ve been to some pretty amazing concerts (George Strait, John Mayer (3rd row), Maroon 5, Rascall Flatts, etc.) but I have to say this was the best. Then again, anytime you’re 7 ft. away from a truly talented artist in a hole-in-the-wall venue then the concert is bound to be fabulous.

Look Ma, No ZOOM!

At the end of the concert, we utilized Steven’s long arms…again this will illustrate how close we were…Steven leaned onto the stage and grabbed her play list. Yes! Sara’s freaking play list! And of course I had to scan it in for the proof…

After the concert, we decided to chill on the stage until the venue emptied out. I was getting a little antsy to leave after awhile but thankfully my husband is an in-tune man. We decided to wait just a few more minutes to see if Sara would come back in and wouldn’t you believe it SHE DID! We got a picture with her and chatted for a couple of seconds. I tried with every ounce of my being to remain cool, calm and collected as I told her what a truly fabulous show it was. Steven also let her know that she helped him score major points and of course she asked why and then Steven went on to tell her that the tickets were a V-day surprise she said “Awww, that is really cute,” and then gave Steven a high-five. As we walked away, Steven said to me, “Ya, I think we all would’ve been friends.” Thank you Steven for one of the most insanely amazing nights of my life!
I mean seriously, don’t we all look like chummy old friends?

Chummy old friends? I’m not buying it. Elizabeth, you look entirely too thrilled and giddy for me to believed that’s a chummy old friend picture. There’s nothing wrong with thrilled and giddy, though. Glad you had fun. Steve, glad you have long arms.
